Recall Due to Floor Mat Problem Not a Solution for Toyota’s Problems

A recent floor mat problem that caused Toyota to recall 3.8 million vehicles does not appear to have solved their problem.  Unfortunately, the floor mats, which were first thought to be the problem, caused focus to shift to another area – problems stopping the vehicles.

The NHTSA indicates that owners of certain Toyota vehicles may have a difficult time bringing their cars to a stop in emergency situations, according to USA today.  The report issued by the NHTSA indicates that numerous features found on the Lexus ES-350, which is the same model of car that was involved in a fatal California crash that took the lives of a California Highway Patrol officer and three others.  This problem also exists in other Toyota models.

According to the report, it would likely take 150 pounds of force for drivers of the Lexus ES-350 to stop their car, which is approximately five times the usual foot pressure present in an adult.  Motorists may also find it difficult to find the neutral gear in case of an emergency situation.  In addition, these vehicles often come with a power stop-start button that allows the driver to start the vehicle without the use of a key.  This means that in an emergency, the motorist would have to press this button continuously for three seconds or longer to get the vehicle to stop.

Many people who drive Toyota vehicles are not aware of the three second requirement, which isn’t even mentioned in the owners manual.  A survey demonstrated that out of every 10 Lexus ES-350 owners, one has experienced an acceleration incident.  California personal injury lawyers find it curious that Toyota has not felt the need to include instructions concerning the stop-start button emergency usage.

Drowsy Driving Accident Takes Lives of Two in Humboldt

In what is believed to be a drowsy driving accident, a Crescent City man and 5 year old boy were killed while riding with 27 year old Maira Montez, who apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

According to the Times-Standard, the driver was on US Highway 101 when she dozed off, allowing the Chevrolet Suburban she was driving to drift off the shoulder of the road, where the vehicle traveled about 300 feet before Ms. Montez awoke.  Upon waking, she attempted to steer her car back on to the highway, but the car then spun because of the sudden movement, causing it to strike a tree.  The 5 year old and 54 year old man were injured severely, and died at the scene.  Montez, along with two others who were passengers in the car, suffered only minor injuries.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data shows that each year, about 100,000 accidents are caused by people who are driving while drowsy.  An estimated 71,000 are injured in these accidents, and 1500 or more die in these accidents.  There is very little education and awareness made available about the dangers of drowsy driving, while the dangers of drunk driving and driving without the use of seat belts is a frequent topic.

Education campaigns have made motorists very aware of the dangers of driving under the influence and not wearing seat belts.  While fatalities and serious injuries still occur, the numbers have fallen.  Unfortunately, driving while in a drowsy state has not been brought to the attention of motorists, and tragedies like this one are often the result.  Statistics show that most drowsy driving accidents occur during the early morning hours, and also commonly happen in the peak of the afternoon.  Elderly motorists tend to fall asleep in the afternoon hours, when they may usually be taking a nap.

Taking a Costa Rica Surf Camp Vacation

kind  of surf camp, surf school or surf type of resort where you can
really absorb the sport over the course of days, much like a seminar
experience.

Surfing is a sport, in particular, that requires absorption and immersion
over a period of time for most folks, although I have seen a few
luck individuals who can pick it up very quickly, even in one day. But
that is a rarity, as this is not a sport like bowling or throwing
horseshoes as it requires a little more in the way of agility and muscle
memory that some others I am aware of. I have never been there myself
but I have heard that Costa Rica in central America is a top surfing
destination and that they offer some great surf tours in costa rica
as well as a costa rica surf camp and vacation. In fact, they even have
costa rica surf yoga available. Pretty cool I would say. So consider
a costa rica surf camp if you get the time and opportunity. For it’s part, the
little postage stamp sized Latin American country has 2 distinct airports which
happen to take various international flights from all around the globe. The
bigger of these 2 airports, known as the Juan Santamaria International Airport,
for quite some time was the one and only such airport in the entire country.
All in all, it is served by the majority of United States based airlines
like the friendly skies of Delta, United airlines, American (try to avoid
this airline if you can, I have had several very bad experiences with
these guys, unfortunatey), plus numerous additional international airlines
such as Virgin Atlantic, the Holland based KLM, Spain based Iberia, Mexico
based Mexicana, British Airways (I do recommend this one) Canadian
controlled Air Canada as well as a bunch more carriers.

The central location of this primary airport is indeed ideal, making it
ahandy hub where can go to nearly any portion of the country in about six
hours or less, generally speaking.

Taking a Vacation in the Scenic Rocky Mountains

It is really a lot of fun living in the very beautiful and scenic mile
high city Denver. All in all, you may want try a journey to the Grand
Lake, which essentially goes to the upper levels of the famous Colorado
River. In addition, you can check out the mountains with snow if you
happen to be a ski or snowboard lover. But the lake is really my personal
favorite, it is near Rocky Mountain Park and there are deer, elk, moose
and osprey on and around the lake.

Having said that, though, it should be noted that an excursion to Grand
Lake is not just several hours on the lake. Non-stop is 2 hours by motor
vehicle. Here are some locations that you just may wish to check out on
your way back to the mile high city of Denver. For one thing, you will
certainly want to check out the Trail Ridge Road which is located in the
Rocky Mountain National Park break. Or conversel, you can cross the park
and then scope out Boulder, home of the famous Coors beer.
It should be noted that this will add about an hour to your drive, yet the
view their is simply unreal. Dinner grave Pearl Street Mall, the journey
of the day show, complete with a road. As an aside, if you need a place
to hang your hat while you are there let me suggest that you make your
reservations at this particular Denver Hotel which is really one of the
top denver hotels near 16th street mall and for that matter is a leading
colorado convention center hotels for the entire state.

Now back to the main story:

If you would like to turn your Rocky mountain trip into a weekend day, you
are able to see night in Grand County, plus even more. There are truly a
plethera of different and awesome campsites for your pleasure to try in
this incredible area. Last but certainly not least, choose a friend who is
fun and brings things to do in Denver Hotel. The Hilton garden Inn hotel I
mentioned earlier is also great for the children to play in, to see your
child having a fun and safe time there will make your
vacation that much more enjoyable.

Contrived Disasters Real In Denver

Have you ever watched any of those reality shows on TV– like the one
where they go in and totally rebuild some down-on-their-luck family’s home
in about a week?  I’ve often thought about what a nightmare that would be
for the neighbors, with construction going on twenty-four-seven, trucks
and cars clogging the streets.  Well, now there’s something worse going on
in Englewood, Colorado, and it’s a reality show aptly called, “Disaster
House”.

The idea behind “Disaster House” is to artificially create some sort of
“natural” disaster to a home, then show how to repair it. To the lucky
neighborhood in which a particular episode might be filmed, a home might
suffer a fire or a flood, for example. The cable TV production company
called, “High Noon”, might employ a flame thrower, smoke bombs, or, as
they did in one episode, bring in an elephant to create a toilet clog! As
an aside if you require a Denver Hotel may I suggest the Hilton Garden Inn.

perhaps other types of colorado convention center hotels.

A story in the Denver Post quoted one poor victim-er-ah-neighbor as saying
that the show completely destroyed her privacy and her peace and quiet for

horrible odors, foul-smelling smoke.and on and on.

Other neighbors say they have lost all privacy and wonder what the point
is of some of the means employed by the production company

Fatal Pedestrian Accident at UC Berkeley Results in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Earlier this year a five-year old boy was killed in a pedestrian accident that involved a truck after he was dropped off by his school bus to attend an after school program. The boy, along with some of his friends, usually attended the after school program at UC Berkeley every school day. The bus driver usually dropped off the children at a safe location from where they walked to their after school program at the Clark Kerr Campus of UC Berkeley. On this fateful day, however, the bus driver, for one reason or another, did not drop off the children in the same location. After being dropped off by the bus, the little boy was walking to his after school program when he was hit by a truck. His parents are now filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the truck, who was not cited following the accident, along with the driver of the bus, the school district, the trucking company, and regents from the University of California. An employee from the after school program is also being filed against, likely because they were not available to ensure the boy’s safe passage to the after school program.

Any one of these individuals, or a combination of these individuals and entities, may be held liable for the death of this little boy. As a five-year old, he should have had access to extra protection and care as he traveled from his elementary school to his after school program. Because he didn’t have that specialized care on the day of the accident, he was killed. Wrongful death claims can be filed in California only be relatives of the victim. Although many people might be outraged by the death of this child, only his parents or other relatives are legally able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those they believe to be responsible for his death. Wrongful death claims are filed by Oakland or Berkeley wrongful death lawyers who are specialized in handling cases in which victims have been killed because of the negligence or reckless behavior of others.

Both negligence and reckless behavior may be factors in the death of this five-year old boy. The bus driver that was taking him to school may be charged with negligence because the boy was not dropped off at the normal location where he could get to his after school program safely. The school district may also be charged with negligence because they did not make the importance of dropping these children off at the right location for their after school program a major priority for the bus driver they trained. The driver of the truck, on the other hand, may be charged with reckless endangerment in the instance that he was careless in his driving. The trucking company may also be charged with negligence or reckless behavior if it is found that they did not train their employee properly in all the safety issues associated with driving his truck.
